I mean, if I'm sitting there in my living room and the dog wants to come up and wants to play with a ball, we don't do it. We just don't do it. We make the dog learn. The rules in our house are to be calm and go lay down. We don't play with toys in the house. We play with toys outside. Then she goes on. We walk him three times a day, loose leash. We practice basic obedience every day, sit, stay, down, recall. We make him sit and wait until we say a release command before he eats his meals. It's okay. The equipment we use for training treats, toys, leash, water spray bottle suggested by the trainer and used only for two days because it stopped working. It never was going to work. Bitter apple spray suggested by the trainer. My dog doesn't like it. However, if he gets too overstimulated, the spray no longer has an effect on him. That's because it's a foolish thing for somebody to say to use bitter apple on a dog like this. And again, anybody can call themselves a dog trainer. They just need to hang a shingle out next to their, wherever they are, put a dog trainer, professional dog trainer in their ad. People assume they know what they're doing. A vast majority of them don't know what they're doing. Maybe I sound bitter, but I just get so many of these kind of emails that come in with just bad information from people that are so-called dog trainers telling other people what to do. For example, of an incident, when we see another dog during his walks, he will listen to my command to ignore and keep walking. But when we reach close to home, he will jump and bite. It's because he wants to keep walking. And he hasn't learned that jumping and biting are not a good thing to happen because

they have serious consequences. When he takes objects he's not supposed to have, like the TV remote, like slippers, etc., and I manage to take it back, he will jump and bite. Again, he doesn't respect these people. He hasn't learned rules. When we take him to the backyard to play, he'll suddenly get really excited and he jumps and bites us. Okay. My dog will not redirect to my husband. Ah, you think. Herein tells you something about this dog. The dog knows a thing or two about what the husband is going to allow and not allow. I have no idea what the husband did, but whatever he did, maybe the wife should pay attention to it because that's the kind of behavior you want to have. So anyway, the trainer suggested to get the dog dorted earlier. So I scheduled that for around a month from now when he's 10 months of age. If you need any more information, please let me know. Thank you so much for your time. Oh, and they say, what kind of collars? Cindy asked, what kind of collars are you using when he's on a leash? And then here's where we start to get to the beat. We're training him using a harness. Bad deal. Cindy said, the first thing I would suggest is to use a training collar. Now, she didn't say when she talked to the person, what kind of training collar. You can start a dog like this with a prong collar, let him self-correct himself by pulling into the leash with a prong collar. But if you have a situation where the dog's turning and engaging with you and you're trying to give it a pop on the leash, if it has a prong collar on it, that may overstimulate the dog more than he was already stimulated. So it's going to raise it up. A lot of times prong collars do that. You know, people will say, oh, prong collar is terrible because it hurts the dog, blah, blah. Any training item can be used incorrectly. You can use it so it hurts them. It doesn't have to be that way. But on a dog like this, when he's overstimulated, he's turning, he's coming at you and you're trying to pop him with a with a prong collar, that's going to raise the level of stimulation. It's going to go downhill first, unless you're a strong person. In my opinion, a dog like this should have a dominant dog collar on him. A dominant dog collar is not going to overstimulate a dog. A dominant dog collar is going to take this crazy redirective wildness out of the dog if you use it the way it's intended to be used. If you go to my website or some of the, I just did a video not that long ago on how to properly use a dominant dog collar. This would be a perfect dog to have that. And the short version is you get the right

size collar so there's only about an inch or two inches of slack. And when the dog starts getting crazy, you just put some, you say no. You don't get mad, you don't get excited, you don't sound nervous, you just say no. And you lift up on the dominant dog collar. The dominant dog collar rides right underneath the dog's chin and right behind the ears right here. And if it only has an inch or two of slack, you only have to put a little bit of upward pressure with the leash to get a behavior change with most dogs. Depending upon how overstimulated this dog is, in the very beginning of training, the dog doesn't know what's going on. So you're going to have to use a little more upward pressure. But you have to stick with it until the dog calms down, until the dog submits. You have to do that. After the dog has done this, just it doesn't take long with these dogs. After you have done it a few times, two, three times, maybe four times, the dog learns to respect. You say no, put a little bit of pressure on the upward pressure on that dog. No, no, no, no, no, no. Okay, I'll do what you want. Just take some time, get the right tools, learn how to use the tools. So I'm going to go on here. Cindy goes ahead and says stop using a harness. Don't allow the dog to have this kind of a behavior. A harness is not a training tool for a dog like this. A harness is not going to stop a dog from doing this. It's not going to happen. Neutering is okay, Cindy said. Personally, I don't like neutering dogs that are 10 months old. I would rather see that dog. It's okay to neuter dogs, but I would wait until it's, you know, 15 months to 24 months to 30 months old. Let the dog use the hormones that it has as it's maturing and then neuter the dog. But I would almost guarantee you, a hundred percent, I'll say 99.9 percent, that neutering this dog is not going to change this dog's behavior. Ain't going to happen. So Cindy goes on, this dog needs to learn some clear rules. And the problem is that this person has allowed this dog to practice bad behavior for a long time. Had she started right from the beginning when it was a little bitty puppy with a collar, with a line, always keeping the dog on a leash. If we had this dog, it would have a leash and a collar on all the time until we put it in a dog crate or a dog kennel. Then it would come off. The collar would come off. But around the house, it would always have a leash on. And it would learn that that kind of behavior is not allowed. When she talked about getting the TV remote in the mouth and blah blah, I'm sorry.

If it's on a leash, you can tell the dog no. If he ignores it, ignores the no, and still goes on, then you correct the dog. How hard do you correct him? You correct him hard enough to get a behavior change. Again and again, I've said this, the purpose of a correction is not to punish a dog. The purpose of a correction is to get a behavior change. One way to solve this problem is don't leave your damn remote control around where your dog's going to pick it up. Put it up high. And if he then is on a leash and he goes to jump up and get it, then you give him a good correction. Same thing goes for your slippers. Don't leave your slippers around so the dog can get them. Problem solved. But still, that dog needs to learn this is not acceptable behavior. And when you do it, you're going to get a correction every time. And you have to have either an X-pen, like a baby pen there. But again, with this dog, it would not surprise me that they don't use an X-pen. They should be using a dog crate, but if they have an X-pen and put the dog in an X-pen, he's going to want to knock it down and get out. They've got to learn every time they do that. You're not going to let that happen. And how do you do that? You can go up and pound on the outside of the pen and knock it back and say, knock it off. It might be easier just to use a dog crate. When the dog is being, is misbehaving, say, nope. Put the dog in the dog crate and go and do your own thing. You don't need to leave him in the crate for hours. You can leave him in there for five minutes. And if he starts to misbehave, get him out, put him on a leash, put him on a, put a collar and a leash on him. And if he's being nasty, too rowdy, they, nope, put him back in the, in the crate and give him something to do. Give him a, a knuckle bone, not cooked bones, not, not steak bones from last night's dinner. You don't give dogs that. They, they splinter and they can really hurt a dog, but an uncooked knuckle bone from your butcher will keep your dog busy for a while. Cindy goes on to say here that if he was outside with me in the yard, he would be on a leash and a long line and a collar all the time. This dog should not be off a long line at all. One thing about dogs and, and, and long lines, dogs can be pretty smart, but if they, they're dragging a 20 foot line around, they never know where the end of that line is. So if you want to call him when he's outside in the yard and he ignores you, it's easy. The end of the line could be over here and the dog's over there. They don't understand. They can't seem to figure out that

you're going for the end of the line and then you're going to correct the dog. In an issue like that, that's a situation where maybe I would put a prong collar on that dog out there. So there's nothing wrong with having a dominant dog collar and a prong collar on the dog for different applications. Cindy goes on to say the more you allow him to practice these things, the wrong type of things, the more ingrained these behaviors become in the dog. Once he matures, redirection may be more serious towards you. So that's really important to understand. When they're young, it can be a little hectic, a little this, a little that. But as they mature and get older, if you don't get a handle on this, it could end up being he might not be jumping on you and he might not be scratching you and he might not be nibbling on your arm. He may do a full-fledged bite on you or your daughter. So Cindy goes on to say, she's very polite here, spraying water and bitter apple is not a viable option for any of the behaviors you have described. As you noted, typically, typically only over stimulating many dogs with water or bitter apple is either A, not going to work or B, only going to work for a day or so. And then finally here, Cindy talks about when you have a leash and collar on your dog and when you're training basic obedience, you want to train your dog to give to pressure, give to leash pressure. I'm not going to go into how you train that here. We have videos on those and it works. I mean, we have horses. I can take an 1100 pound horse and just put two fingers on him and move him over. That's give to pressure. We have our dogs, the way we train them, we can have them on a leash and just put a little bit of pressure on the leash and the dog will back up. That's give to pressure. And that's what a dog like this needs. It takes correct training and it takes some time to do that. We show people how to do it in our training videos.
