보더콜리 강아지들이 침대를 찢거나 장난감을 파헤치기 시작하는 것은 결코 드문 문제가 아닙니다. 저는 개인적으로 이런 행동을 좋아하지 않습니다. 관리하고 계시다니 다행이지만, 강아지에게서 물건을 빼앗을 때는 반드시 보상을 통해 교환해 주어야 합니다. 강아지가 주인에게 자원 방어 행동을 하게 만들고 싶지는 않을 테니까요. 그래서 저는 강아지가 찢어버릴 가능성이 있는 강아지 침대 같은 것들은 접근하지 못하게 합니다. 대신 저는 강아지에게 두뇌 활동을 위한 인리치먼트 연습을 시킵니다. 휴지심 같은 것에 간식을 넣어서 마음껏 찢게 해주는 식이죠. 단지 강아지가 종이 찢는 것을 좋아하게 될 수 있다는 점은 알고 계셔야 합니다. 저는 가끔 강아지 침대를 다시 줘봅니다. 강아지가 입을 대려고 하면 바로 다른 것과 교환합니다. 씹을 수 있는 장난감 같은 것을 주죠. 이 내용은 나중에 강아지가 조절 불능 상태에서 공동 조절을 거쳐 스스로 조절하는 단계로 나아가는 법을 다룬 219회 팟캐스트 에피소드가 나오면 더 이해가 잘 되실 겁니다. 지금은 그저 평범한 강아지답게 행동하는 중입니다.
Certainly not an uncommon problem with border collie puppies where they start to shred their beds or digut toys. I personally don't like it. You say that you're managing which is great, however if you're taking things away from the puppy make sure you're trading because you don't want to get them resource guarding against you. So I don't give them access to dog beds and things that they might potentially want to shred. I actually give them enrichment exercises like a puppy bomb. Toilet paper roll, put some cookies inside, let them shred this. Just know they're going to learn to like to shred paper. And I'll try with a dog bed every once in a while. As soon as I see their mouth on it I trade them out. I give them something like a tattoo on. This will all make more sense when podcast episode number 219 comes out where I talk more about moving your puppy from dysregulation through co-regulation to self-regulation. Just being a normal puppy right now though.
