반려견 훈련은 놀랍지만, 이건 정말 제 생각을 완전히 뒤흔들어 놓네요. 저는 훌륭한 기초와 기반을 갖추고 왔다고 생각했는데, 이건 정말 대단합니다. 15년 동안 한 번도 들어본 적 없는 것들을 배웠습니다. 정말 놀라웠습니다. 모든 과정이 다 놀라웠어요. 만약 누군가 반려견과 반려견 사이의 관계를 진정으로 이해하고 싶다면, 높은 수준의 반려견 훈련을 원한다면, 바로 이것이 정답입니다. 정말 이것뿐이에요. 이건 필수입니다. 구조 활동을 하든, 개인 훈련을 하든, 보호소에서 일하든, 배경과 상관없이 기본적인 토대가 되어야 합니다. 다시 말하지만, 반려견을 다루는 사람이라면 누구나 이 정도의 이해는 기본적으로 갖춰야 한다고 생각합니다. 이 과정은 훨씬 더 다양한 차원의 연민과 이해를 제공하며, 보호소에 있는 개들이나 구조된 개들, 그리고 대회에 참가하는 개들의 삶을 향상할 기회를 줍니다. 그래서 제가 얻은 가장 큰 수확은 탄탄한 기초를 다질 수 있는 능력입니다. 그 기초를 바탕으로 개들에게 상상할 수 있는 가장 열악한 환경에서도 훌륭한 성과를 낼 수 있게 되는 것이죠. 저는 이반이 제가 만나본 최고의 선생님 중 한 명이라고 생각합니다. 저는 대학 프로그램과 고등학교 과정을 거쳤지만, 그 어떤 선생님들도 이반처럼 가르치거나, 정보를 습득하도록 도울 수는 없었습니다. 그는 정말 독보적입니다. 여기 올 때만 해도 개를 훈련하는 단계별 프로그램을 배우러 온 줄 알았습니다. 하지만 실제로는 완전히, 근본적으로 다른 무언가였습니다. 집에 돌아가면 가장 먼저 할 일은 제 개에게 사과하는 것일 것 같아요. 이반이 제게 보여준 것들 덕분에 반려견 훈련을 바라보는 제 시각이 완전히 바뀌었고, 앞으로 제 반려견과 소통하는 방식도 완전히 달라질 것이기 때문입니다. 그는 정말 처음부터 시작해서, 개와의 상호작용을 통해 기초를 쌓아갑니다. 그저 행동에 관한 문제나 훈련사로서 개에게서 어떤 행동을 끌어내는 것만이 전부가 아닙니다. 그것은 개와 상호작용하는 것, 그리고 그가 개와 함께 나누는 경험에 관한 것이기도 합니다. 그리고 그의 학생들에게도 바로 그 점을 가르치고 있죠. 관계가 올바르게 형성되면 행동은 자연스럽게 따라옵니다. 그것이 제가 지금까지 배운 가장 큰 전체적인 차이점일 텐데, 정말 놀랍습니다. 그것이 바로 제가 여기 온 이유 중 하나이기도 하고요. 완전히 새로운 세상이라고 생각합니다. 이제 반려견 훈련의 차세대 단계로 접어드는 것과 같습니다. 제 말은, 바로 이것이라는 겁니다. 우리가 나아가야 할 방향이 바로 여기죠. 그럼 이제 여기서 무엇을 더 할 수 있을까요?
Dog training is amazing, but this is like completely blowing my mind. I came in with what I feel like is a great foundation and base, but this is crazy. I learned things that in 15 years I've never heard. It's been amazing. The whole thing has been amazing. I would say if somebody wants to truly understand dogs' relationships with dogs, training dogs at a high level, that this is it. This is truly it. It's a must. It should be the basic foundation of, it doesn't matter if you're in rescue, if you're in private training, if you work at a shelter, it doesn't matter your background. I feel like this, again, baseline of understanding should be a must for anybody that handles dogs. I think it gives you so many different levels of compassion and understanding and just opportunity to enhance shelter dogs' lives and rescue dogs' lives and dogs that are working in competition. So that is the biggest takeaway for me is just the ability to really build a strong foundation to then be able to achieve greatness in some of the worst environments imaginable for dogs. I think Ivan is one of the best teachers that I've ever had. And I've gone through college programs in high school and none of those teachers can teach and help you to learn the information like Ivan can. He's unique in that. When I came here, I thought it was going to be some, you know, a step-by-step program in how to train a dog. But actually, it's something completely radically different. When I go back home, I think the first thing I'm going to do is apologize to my dog because what Ivan has kind of opened my eyes to so far, he's just completely changed the way I'm going to be looking at dog training and, you know, how I communicate with my dog. He really builds from the very start, he builds the foundation through interaction with the dog. It's not just about behavior and as a trainer getting a behavior from a dog. It's also as much about interacting with that dog and the experience that he has with the dog and teaching his students the same thing. Behaviors come whenever the relationship is right. And that's probably the biggest overall difference that I've picked up so far, which is amazing, which is one of the reasons I'm here. It's a whole new world, I think. Like, now it's stepping into the next generation of dog training. I mean, this is it. This is where we're going. And now what can we do from here?
