이걸 한번 생각해 보세요. 가족들과 외출을 한다고 칩시다. 크리스마스에 할머니 댁에 가려고 출발했는데 도로가 폐쇄된 상황이에요. 아이들에게 '음, 할머니 댁엔 못 가겠구나. 다른 할머니 댁에 가자.'라고 말하지는 않죠. 어디선가 다른 할머니를 찾을 때까지 다른 집 문을 두드리고 다니지는 않을 겁니다. 아니죠, 우리는 그저 전략을 바꾸기만 하면 됩니다. 늘 가던 길로 갈 수 없다면 다른 길로 가면 됩니다. 혹시 그 도로도 막혔다면 차를 세워두고 배낭을 멘 채 할머니 댁까지 걸어갈 수도 있겠죠. 배를 타고 갈 수도 있고 우버를 불러서 갈 수도 있습니다. 그러니까 할머니 댁에 갈 방법은 다른 전략들도 많지만, 그렇다고 그분이 더 이상 우리 할머니가 아니라고 말하지는 않습니다. 다른 친절한 분을 찾아가겠다고 하지도 않고요. 우리는 결코 목표를 바꾸지 않습니다. 옳은 것을 바꾸지 않죠. 우리는 반려견이 성공할 수 있도록 전략을 바꾸는 것입니다.
Think about this. You're going out with your family. You're going to grandma's house for Christmas and you head out and the road's closed. You don't say to the kids, well, guess we're not going to grandma's house. We're going to go to some other grandma's house. We're going to go knock on another door till we find another grandma somewhere else. No, we just have to change our strategy. We can't go the way we always went. Let's go a different way. Maybe that road's closed too. Let's park the car and get some knapsacks and hike our way to grandma's house. Let's take a boat to grandma's house. Let's take an Uber to grandma's house. I mean, there's other strategies to get to grandma's house, but we don't say she's no longer our grandmother. We're going to go visit some other nice lady. We never change our goal. We never change that which is correct. We change the strategy to help our dogs be successful.
