Good Saturday afternoon, everybody. Yeah, it's Saturday afternoon or Saturday morning or wherever it is. And this has got this weird yellow, orange, reddy light on my face. I'm going to let me know who's out there and who got the SMS message to join us today. That is the latest cool tool that I see some people taking advantage of in our community that we let you know when we're going live. Okay. Rahweenie. How do I pronounce your name? And is that your real name? Hello? Because you always remind me to ask people to like my videos and I appreciate you. So I'm going to give you a heart if I can find my heart. Wow. I lost my heart. Hey, Pasquale. How are you? Oh, it's evening in the UK. It's about joy being joyful today. Um, Hey, Karen, I was just thinking of you because I'm going to talk about something today. I think you could do a really cool cartoon for that. That's I sat down and I'm thinking, Karen, I bet Karen would could do this. Um, hello everybody. Okay. Question. Here's my question I have for you. I would, I want you to think about this question and what's the first thing that comes to your mind. Don't give it a analytical. Oh, put a microscope on it. What is your knee jerk reaction? The first thing that comes to your mind, brain, ask your brain. If I knew the exact answer, what would the ratio be to this question? Okay. Are you ready? I built it up, right? Okay. Here's your question. If any one dog training session is a mixture of joy and frustration, what would be the ratio of your average dog training session? So typically do you have more, um, frustration or must more joy, or is it 50, 50, what would it be? And you know, you could put part two would be, what would your dog's answer be? Ha ha ha. You, you know, feel free to answer that. Thank you. Yeah. The SMS is a really cool, right? We're getting a lot of people commenting on that. So if you, if you don't know about, uh, how to get on the SMS, we will let you know. Hello from Quebec, Jose from Holland, Christina. Oh, good to see you, Christina. Okay. So I, uh, 80, 20 is 70, 30 completely depends. I want to say your average, your average session, 90, 90, 20, 98 to zero two. So much joy. Um, more joy and more joy, more joy, 60, 40, Christina. I appreciate your, that's honestly, whatever your gut tells you it is joy to frustration, 75, 25. Okay. My mom would be mostly joy because the frustration would be with myself, perhaps 85, 20, 15, 60, 40, 90, 10 is all over the board. And that's great. It's just whatever comes to you.

Okay. Catherine. I love that honesty. You are 70, 30, the dog, 50, 50. Now I personally am a trainer who believes there needs to be some frustration because when you're learning something, it's different and ideally it's fun and it's easy, but there will be a little bit of frustration because especially if it's different than what you, you know, this, this blows my brain. This isn't how I expect dog training to be 60, 40. Um, but make sure I am in a great state of mind. It's a huge and wonderful for both of us. Yeah. Being conscious about it. 50, 50 says, Emma, I'm going to, I want, I want to help. I want to help adjust the joy frustration ratio. And I guess truthfully, truthfully, like when I was thinking what's the opposite of joy. And the first thing that came to my brain is sorrow, but I'm hoping there's no sorrow in dog training, but really for, for dog training, the dogs are even, and us, we're either having a great time or we're frustrated. I am hoping there's nothing deeper than frustrated that, you know, angry or, um, disappointed. I guess we might be somewhat disappointed in ourselves and often in our, uh, we might be disappointed in our dogs. And then we realize our dogs are just a reflection of our abilities as a trainer. So no need to be disappointed in the dog ever, ever. Okay. 70, 30, 60, 40. I am today. I'm, I I'm going to step through how I make sure that the ratio is overwhelmingly joyful. Okay. I'm going to help you guys see that, how that's possible. What is the ideal ratio? Really? It depends because, um, um, like I, I think with most of us, we aren't having a joyful time if our dogs are not having a joyful time. So if we can see our dogs are obviously frustrated and you know, if you've listened to my podcast, you know, the signs of frustration, the sign, you know, that the dog might be scratching their head or yawning, or they might just leave because the pressure is too much for them. So we, so when I say, what is that ratio? I would like to say you're present to how your dog is feeling about that training session. And my observation is when people come into our programs, where if you follow what I do, you know that everything we teach a dog, everything that I teach, if I bring in a new puppy or I bring in a rescue dog to my home, everything is taught through play. Now, I don't, you know, if you come from a background where things are done differently, you might think, oh, you mean like everything like agility or tricks are done through play, but the important stuff, you still have to, you know, do it more seriously. No,

I'm going to say this again. Every single thing that I teach my dogs comes through play. And possibly that mindset for me came about because being dyslexic myself, there were things I really struggled with and I wanted to learn them. And the way that I made myself learn them as an adult was I turned them into a game. And that's what helped me to create this mindset of game playing. And I started it with, well, when I was a kid with our family pet. And, and I definitely, when I got into serious dog training, I, I read all the, how to correct your dog and how to let them know that you're the boss. And luckily that phase of my dog training career, which happened in the early eighties was done with by the early nineties. Um, and it carried a lot of growth and frust, there was far more frustration back then than now. And that's one of the things that I see from young people that they're, they're, they're getting, I mean, there's so many people teaching dog training so many different ways. And there's a very, um, a militant vibe, a militant energy to teaching young puppies to sit down and stay, you stay. And, um, there's none of that when you're teaching the way I do. And I know without a shadow of a doubt that my dogs are trained as well as I would put them the skill level up there with anybody else on the planet. Right. So I, we used to teach, uh, workshops here and people from other dog training schools would come and there's a dog training school that's not too far away. And one of their instructors and it's, and it, and it's trained with, uh, it's what you call balance training. They use cookies and then they use corrections because the dog has to learn they have no choice. And so after this woman was like, had this eyeopening day and she wanted to talk to me about it after she's like, my mind was blown. I didn't, I'd never saw, I thought we were being really reinforcing, but I see the different things, but of course you wouldn't train this way for something important, like a recall, would you? And I, and I said, how effective is a recall if the, if it's never, if it's not the dog's choice to come and called they'll there, it will be as effective as the intimidation radius around you. So if the dog's like a foot away and they see a squirrel and you say, you get over here, then maybe they might be intimidated enough that they won't flee. But if they were like 500 meters away and they saw a squirrel, would they still come to you when you asked? And I don't believe any dog will, unless you have been very intentional and creative about the

reinforcements that you've given that animal, that they will always choose you over anything. And I know that's what I have with my dogs. They will choose me over anything. So you can get there, but it's got to be following a very intentional proven plan. And so, you know, there's so many, I watched, it was kind of a hurt my heart a little bit last night when I should have been going to bed, I watched some dog trainers on Tik Tok, the app Tik Tok, and it scared me. It scared me because of the confidence and the certainty that they are sharing with the world. They're recovering dogs that no force trainers screwed up. And there's just like constantly battering, no force trainers screwed this dog up. Well, that's painting like all dog trainers who choose not to use punishment or have the same level of expertise in brilliance. There's a lot of people and there's some really, really popular YouTube dog trainers who don't have success at changing behavior. And sometimes they don't even have success at growing behavior because they haven't got curious about the application of the science of reinforcement. And that's where I've been so blessed to have worked with Bob and Mary and Bailey, who, you know, back in the fifties were training animals for espionage using only reinforcement. Okay. So just by luring a dog around and making it joyful because you're giving them a lot of cookies, that's not creating understanding in a dog, please dig deeper. Okay. I'm going to share a couple of things with you and I am going to get to what is that formula? And I call it, I just, I was thinking about this. You may or may not know this about me. I meditate every single morning and, and what I do is I look at my list of words that I'm going to be talking about on, on this live. And we have 15 words and I meditate on the next three words. And, and two days ago, this came to me. This is what I'm going to share with you today. And for the word joyful, it comes down to something called that out of the meditation. I decided to call the C train. Now, if you're a student who's been with me for 10 years, this is the same, but different. And nobody has ever heard about this before because it just came to me. So it's exactly the same way. We, it's something that we've been teaching forever, just putting it in a different way. Okay. But first I'm going to share with you. We had a post asking our, our online students about their experiences with, um, with our programs. And I'm going to share, I could share a bunch of them and maybe I will over the days, but I want to get to

what I'm here for. And that's to talk about the C train. But this one, um, was one that I wanted to share with you for two reasons, because it was kind of in line with what I'm talking about today, but also because this is one of our, oh, let me just tell you this, the history of this student. There is a bit of a history here. Okay. So I'm going to share my screen. Hold it. So this one, she could be talking about any, any of our programs, but in this case, she's talking about, um, our agility program, handling 360. So why do I want to share this one? I want to tell you the backstory first because, um, the backstory is Laura came to us as a student. She had two young children and she had, she worked a farm and had another job. Her and her husband own this working farm and she was very, very busy and her dog got very, very poorly, uh, behaved. And then she had these children and something had to give. And so Laura became a student, like as casual as you can be because you have two, two kids and a job and a farm, but she got hooked. And long story short, Laura actually works for us now, but this is something I wanted to share about, and this could be about anything. And I could share one about any one of our programs, but, um, she talked about handling 360, but here's what she, the thing that stood out for me is I also needed to add more joy to my training. It was too serious and controlled. I got a great relationship with all of my dogs and learn to laugh with dogs and recognize their joy. I saw how much happier they were as well. And we've never looked back, uh, and learn more every year. So that, I mean, okay, let me just randomly. I'll just, this one is, this one is a great one. Look at these cuties. Um, so this one is from Christine and it was about recallers and I hesitated to join it because she's from Europe and she doesn't speak very great English. But again, one of the things that I wanted to talk about is everything changed, very short sessions, so much joy and fun every day at the beginning with each dog individually for weeks. You can see, she's got more than one dog that she's training here. Um, and, uh, when suddenly we began to realize that all dogs were more aware of where we were and what we were doing, we saw quite immediate changes at home, but outside during walks with some of, um, some or a lot of distractions. It was, it lasted perhaps six months until we could see real changes in every one of the dogs. Okay. So why am I sharing all this with you is because I want to stress to you that having a overwhelmingly joyful experience when you're training your dog,

not only is addictive makes you want to train again, not only makes the dog want to train again, but it brings you unparalleled results, but it only happens if it's strategic. So here's what I'm talking about by strategic, the C train. So the C train starts with connection. I've talked about this with dash, you know, the desire you have to get your dog. You have to connect with your dog and you can say, Oh, I love my dog. He loves me. Let's, uh, we're going to go start training. Training has to be, um, something that, that, you know, I've talked on my podcast about rhythm that kind of dials in your two rhythms together. When I talked about rhythm in my podcast, I mentioned that if you ha if you watch two dogs running, often they adapt and are running in rhythm to each other. And, and that's just such an important, um, piece of dog training that you, your connection is about you. You're dialed into the rhythm of what you're doing, meaning you're aware of, is your dog enjoying this? Is your dog on board with this? And so every dog training session starts with some sort of connection that gets the dog's heart rate up and tug is an easy one, but it needs to be, um, tug with some criteria. It can't be just duration. Oh, you'd like to tug. And this is something I can mindlessly do. Now let's go work. No, I like to say tug with contingencies. If this, then that. So tug is the first layer of connection or playing a chase game, throw a cookie in the corner and take and get your, when your dog picks it up, have them chase you. So connection is the beginning of the C train and, or the D of dash. And then we work on clarity or the A of dash accuracy clarity in the, the, the lowest layer of the rung of what you want to teach your dog. So let's say I'm wanting to do agility. So the first thing that I would teach a dog while I, I go through the, they knew it's your choice. They would know crate games. And now I would do focus forward because I need my agility dog to focus on a line, focus on a jump, focus on the next obstacle. Just pay attention to me peripherally, but don't keep looking in. That would be the first layer I would, I would build. And, and that would be creating clarity. And then I would grow that clarity. So if I'm behind you, if I'm beside you, if there's balls bouncing that you're still focusing forward and that would be building competence. The third C of my C train. All right. And through confidence comes speed because I, if you think of any skill, you know yourself, oh yeah, I know how to do that. You can do it so fast.

You don't have to think about it. So think about the first time you ever went driving, you might've thought you were cool and you could go really fast. Parallel parking. I can go really, really fast. Now I'm 60 years old and I can parallel park one goal like that mostly because my car does it for it by itself, but that's beside the, okay, bad example. Confidence in anything means you can move faster when you do it. If you are unsure, then you are going to be slower driving a car. You've been driving for 20 years. You can drive no problem. And now all of a sudden you're in the middle of a blizzard, your confidence drops. And so you are more careful. So clarity, connection first, and then you create clarity and you keep repeating it in different ways. And then you get confidence. And now that you have confidence, you add the final element of the C train and that's the complexity or the challenge. So, you know, you might say, all right, you can do focus forward. Then we've done one jump. Now I'm going to increase the challenge. We might be doing two or three jumps, but here's what happens. And I'm using agility as an example, but it could be any, it could be puppy class. We could use, we could do the same example or the same scenario with puppy class. With agility, people go, oh, you want to do agility? Here's a jump. Let's get your dog following the cookie, going over the jump. Now let's do four of them in a row. And so what you've done is you've disregarded the connection or the clarity or the, or the confidence you've jumped right to challenge and complexity. And that's when there's failures, there's frustration. And instead of joy being at 90 to 95% of your dog training, joy becomes five or, or, or, or less percent and frustration is 95. And that's when the dog starts to leave. And that's when the person or your, you know, the instructor who doesn't understand what's going on says you need to punish that dog. He's blowing you off. That just makes me sad. Dogs don't blow you off. Maybe teenagers and ex-boyfriends, but not dogs. Okay. I'm just kidding. All right. The C train. That's how you ensure you get maximum joy in your dog training. And that's what I know our programs bring everybody. And I'm so confident about that, that in all of our programs, you will find that we have a, um, a guarantee period where you can come and join a program and you could say, I want to experience this thing that Susan's talking about, the C train. And I'm going to play around with recallers or handling 360 or, or, or homeschool the dog or, or

any one of them. And, and you have two weeks to decide if this is the kind of enriched community of like-minded people you want to hang with. If we are your people and we get to decide if you are our people because that two week guarantee period is also for us. Because if we see somebody who just doesn't fit, we're going to say, um, you know what, maybe you should come back when you're a little bit more open to these ideas. Maria, are you really from Ancaster? Seriously. We're like practically neighbors. Okay. So if you have decided that I'm your people, because let me tell you my, okay, maybe not the cork, the quirky, quirkiness of me, but from me beside me in all of this is my team. So our team, I think, I don't know, we have about 20 people on our team. And then, so from my team, then there is our community. And guess what? This just keeps going out more and more and more. This is who you surround yourself with. When you are in our programs, you surround yourself with people who number one, love dogs. Number two, seek to put joy at the maximum element. And I don't believe joy should be a hundred percent because if it is, then chances are you are not stepping outside of the comfort zone often enough. How cool is that Maria? Oh my gosh. Maria who just said that she's from Ancaster. Guess what guys? I'm like practically in Ancaster. I'm in the country. I'm not in the countryside of Ancaster. So that's what it's all about. That's what the C train is all about. And that's why we are doing a jumpstart cyber event. And you see that I put this little URL at the bottom of my name here, that I'm definitely your people. Thank you for that. I love it when people say I'm your people. So that's why I put the URL there. Go to that URL. If you are brand new to this, you've never heard one of my podcasts. You've never, this is a new, I've never, this is crazy. I've never thought of training dogs this way. Then what I would encourage you to do is, um, there's a place where you can get this ebook, watch the video, grab the ebook, learn a little bit more about what I'm talking about. Then there's a video that tells you what program would be the best one for you to try. And, and you can, and like I said, you're basically test driving anything. There is nobody else that has online dog training that says, try any of my products, try, try any of our programs, immerse yourself in being in our community. And you will know if we are your people. And like we, we've, we had, I remember when somebody, um, joined one of our Facebook groups and he heard this kind of Facebook live and he said,

I don't think I belong here. And, and I'm like, that's great. We are not your people. And he, he was very polite about it, but he said, I don't, I don't believe this is the way dogs need to be trained. Uh, I believe dogs need something different and that's your journey. And all that I, all that I can do is open our doors and keep an open heart that if at some point your journey changes, you're welcome here. This isn't about judging you for what you've done in the past. This isn't about judging you for, for what you feel dogs need to have happen now. It's about seeing what possibilities are here. If you would like to do it in a different way. And I got to tell you, I've been training dogs this way since 1996 is when I a hundred percent went all in, not going to be, uh, correcting my dogs. I'm not going to be saying, uh, no, no. I mean, it was a, it was an evolution that started in 1993 for me by 93, I had said, I'm all in pushed all my chips in. And people said, this wasn't going to work. This girl's going to fail. And I was at the elite of the sport of dog agility at the time. And guess what? I'm going to do it. Here we are. And this is getting bigger and bigger and stronger and stronger. And as I said on my Instagram this morning, I'm going to leave you with this. I believe you can, when you train a dog, it changes who you are as a person. So if you are a person who is intentionally trying to get 90% joy into everything you do with your dog, guess how that changes you as a person. If you're a person who's intentionally looking to set a dog up to be corrected because you believe they're wrong and bad, that also changes you as a person. And so that's how I organize my life. I want to reduce the cortisol my body is producing. And I want to increase the amount of joy I have in my life, both when I'm teaching my own dogs, but also the vast majority of my time, I'm coaching other people. And every time I see somebody doing something that isn't correct, I want to approach them with so much acceptance and joy and lack of judgment, because if I don't, it affects me. And that's how the world I think, I believe is going to be a better world because it's going to be changed by dog trainers. That's it. Join us. I want to be part of it. Hearts to all of you. I'm jumping off. Oh, I got to give away some prizes. Holy smokes. Look at this. Check this out. First thing I'm going to do is I'm going to tell you how, first I'm going to share with you we have a prize to give away, but I want to share with you how you can win a prize for tomorrow.

Okay. So all that you have to do is if you believe what I've been talking about, if you believe we can change the world by training dogs in a kinder way, then I would like you to share this live onto your social media. And when you share it, you're going to just put some line that's going to peak somebody's curiosity so that they will come and watch it because you'll, you can be part of this world change. And once you've shared it, come on back here and write shared. And if you shared it on Instagram and you shared it on Facebook and you shared it on, on Twitter, come back and say, I shared it three places because when you do, you get three names into tomorrow's draw. Okay. And tomorrow, what's tomorrow Sunday. Let's give away tomorrow. Oh, I'm not going to tell you what to, oh yeah. Okay. I'm not going to tell you what I'm going to give away tomorrow. I'm going to tell you what we're giving away today though. This is from, this is from, I got to share a picture with you. Check this out. Okay. So this is from the people at Zentech. You see, you get this cooling wrap and a cooling bed for your dog. So this is the cool thing that we're sharing today. And I'll just show you the inside of this because I just happened to have my Zentech cold here. It really does keep the dogs cool. Like this material. I don't know. It's magic. I don't know how it works. I know it was created for NASA. So good enough for NASA. It's good enough for me. So I've been using my Zentech product for, um, I don't know, probably 10 years, maybe not eight years. So I'm giving that away today. And I'm going to share with you how we're going to do it. Let me find, um, first of all, the number of people that we are sharing. So I'm going to check with my team and how many people are, we're going to put into our our random generator. Uh, 94 just came up. Did you hear that clink? That just came up. Okay. So I'm going to share my screen with you. I'm going to, I'm going to get rid of all the ads. You can't see all these ads. Hold on. Okay. Sharing my screen and we will be selecting this is for that cool Zentech pack and really cool. One in 94 of you are going to win this. This is so cool. So let's go 94 and I'm going to go generate all this excitement with bubbles and stars. Number 42. Boom ba-da-doom. Okay. So here's what we're here's what happens now. My team goes to the list of all the people that shared from yesterday and the 42nd person that comes up on that list. You're going to win. And I'm, we're going to tell you today because you don't have to wait till tomorrow to find out.

We will tell you. So anyone who shares today, you'll be in for tomorrow. And I promise you tomorrow will be really an awesome prize, but I'm not going to tell you what it is. Okay. So, the person who won Christine said on S E I'm going to, I'm going to just copy and paste this right here. You were the per our winner. So here, Christine, I don't think, I don't know if I saw you on here today, Christine, but yeah, look at that. Okay. If you guys have any questions at all about this kind of approach to dog training, if you, if there's something that is a resistance in you, that's holding you back from jumping in, I would love for you to leave me a comment because believe me when I say it's probably been asked before we've been doing this for so many years and we've had people come to us with so many heartbreaking stories or so many, um, concerns about their own limitations as a, as a dog owner that there is no question we haven't, we haven't seen, I'm sure. And, um, I'd love to help you to get clarity with what your, what your concerns are. Okay. Tomorrow 1 PM, same place, same time, same girl. See you then.
