Hello. I can't. There we go. There we go. Okay, Swaggy, I'm on live. So I say hello when they think somebody's in the house, right? You guys have that? I have a question for you. Question is this one. How can you tell, how can your dog tell when you're happy when you're training? How can you, if you were your dog, how could you go? Yeah, this could be a good day. Look at how happy she is. Hey, I'm glad you like the SMS. We just started doing that. Um, I'm glad. Thank you for saying so. Excuse me. I got a little bit of a tickle. How can you tell? How can your dog tell? I don't know. I can't read that. Hey, Anne. Good to see you. How can your dog tell when you're happy when you're training or that you're happy? Today is, uh, the live is about, uh, happiness and dog training and it isn't what you think it will be. She gets excited. What does that mean? Hey, Amy. What does it mean? She gets excited. What does that look like? I'm just looking for something. I want to show you guys. So, um, ah, that's a good one. And your energy, the energy she, that you bring in, she smiles. The energy you bring in, um, gives the dog input as to how you're feeling. A hundred percent Veronica, another great one. So we have your energy. We have your tone. These are good. Excitement in your voice for sure. That's going to tell a story for them. Big smile on my face laughing. So what if you're not talking because we don't always talk or when we are right. There's another one body language. So the body language and the energy, of course, the tone, um, when we are talking that the fact that we're laughing, if you're anything like me, I sing a lot when I'm training my dogs. Um, the engagement you have. Yes. So somebody should be writing these down. These are really good. I'm going to write them down here. So we have body language and you're laughing. I can't spell off and you're how you talk and you're engaged. Okay. These are really, really good. Oh, Irene. Okay. This is beautiful. I'm going to post, put this up here. Look at how beautiful this is. I study English for understanding your lesson. Oh, thank you. Oh, I hope that I'm speaking slow enough that you can understand my length, my lesson. You're feeling confident sends confidence to the dog. So that's a really good one too. So your, your confidence. These are huge. These are huge. Okay. So it's important that, um, now let's think about the opposite. What about maybe, um, things haven't gone great that day or there's, you know, we all have things that go on in our life and then we have to train our dog. And that might be like this baggage that we carry into our training.

And so now what if our energy were a little distracted? So our engagement is not quite with it. What is the dog read from that? So I just want you to think about it, but that's, that's not, you know, the main thing. Oh, by the way, we're giving away a prize today. Not one, but two. Well, we're giving away one prize. And I'm going to tell you how you can, you can get the second one. The, the reward. Oh, touch. There's a really good one. Uh, Evans. That's a good, your pheromones. So that's, that, that's been scientifically proven that dogs can smell things that we aren't able to know that we are admitting and they know how we're feeling. Um, if we're stressed, they can take that on. And I'm, and I'm, I know you guys have seen this in your own dog training and maybe you haven't been aware, but I remember one time when I was particularly sad, very, very sad event, bad event happened. And I was grieving for several, well, for quite a while, but several, for several days, I was crying every once in a while during the day. And my dogs would immediately give me a different response. My Jack Russell at the time, she immediately ran over to our, I kept my training bag in the corner of the living room. I had a one bedroom apartment. She would run over to the training bag and she would just sit up pretty beside the training bag. Anytime I just start crying, my border collie ran out of the room and hid. It was just too much energy for her. So we, our dogs are able, and it's, you know, this, this little anecdote doesn't prove that dogs are able to, to sense our energy. It actually has been scientifically proven university of Milan study with a Biagio D'Angelo. I think his last name was, you can look it up. Um, yeah, dogs can feel that. So I want to talk about happiness. I want to talk about, um, what that, what that means to our dogs. And, and, but it's not what you think because you're probably thinking, oh, Susan, you're going to talk about, um, that we, we, we shouldn't be unkind. Like this is, this is the important thing that we, we have to be, um, we have to be nice to dogs when we're training them. But that's, I mean, I, I would love it, but that's not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about, um, there's, there's a, there's a great book out right now. Um, I'm just going to look up the, the author of the book. Oh, I can't find it now. There we go. Um, there we go. So Bruce Perry, I think Oprah was involved with this book as well. She had instigated it and the book is called what happened to you. So when something goes wrong in our day-to-day interactions with our dogs, so often the, um,

the, the, the, the thing we say is what did you do or, um, what's wrong with you? I mean, I know if you're listening to this, those thoughts don't go through your head with your dog, with your dog. Right. But if they do, I want you to know that you're human. And so in this book, they talk about rephrasing that, reframing that in your brain is not looking at what's wrong with you or what did you do? It's what happened to you? So maybe if this is a particularly two guys, if you have a rescue dog, if you have a rescue dog, you don't know the past. And so what you have to do is look at if they do something surprising you, don't look at like, what the heck is wrong with you? You're not normal. That may or may not be the case, but who is normal really? But you've got to look at them and go, I wonder what happened to you. And it doesn't matter. We're starting from square one and I, it's how I react to what I see is what's important. How you react to what you see. Don't, if you don't get, you know, if you're getting frustrated by what you're seeing in your dog training and that happens only if you go back to what we talked about on Tuesday, mindfulness, we get frustrated when we have expectations. We're not present. Our expectations are we will be somewhere else than where we are right now. And that absolutely will lead to unhappiness. So to be happy, we have to be present and say, I'm in control of what happens next. Not in that you can control your dog because none of us can really control our dog. All we can do is create the environment so that we hope that we, they, they respond in the way that we want them to. So you've got to consider with the dog, they're just an accumulation of all the emotions they've taken on for us over the years. And if it's a puppy, it could be the accumulation of the emotions they took on as they developed in the litter and they went to a new home. And now that's where they are right now. That's where they are right now. And so they are an accumulation of that history of that energy. And we just got to go, right. We're not going to make excuses and say, oh, we're not, we're going to, you know, let you do whatever you want, but we're not going to be unhappy. I think knowing this goes, it makes us go, oh, wow. I'm going to give you a true life example that just happened last week. So Kim who works here, she has a dog named Switch. Switch is 10, really, really well behaved dog. He's left loose all the time. He, he's not one of those dogs, although he was who liked to shred toys and things.

He's not, he's, so I, um, he was downstairs and Kim was going to, I adore Switches if he was my own dog. He used to live here with us and then, uh, Kim's partner said he wanted him at home. So he, he ended up living at home for the last couple of years, but he still comes to visit. And so he was visiting last week and Kim said, I'm going to go, I'm, I'm leaving soon. And I said, I want to say goodbye to Switch. I went downstairs and I had a little talk with Switch. I said, it's been great having you here. I hope you can come back again. I miss you. You, you, uh, you know, have some, have fun with your dad because his dad had gone, gone away for a week. So that's why he was with us. Okay. Why am I telling you all this 10 year old dog? After I had that conversation, I came upstairs. I actually had a coaching call, Kim back, came back in the house and went to pick up Switch and go down and put them in the car to go home. And this is the true video of what happened. Oh, the actual fudge. Oh my God. So Kim wasn't saying any of that to Switch. Let me just preface this, that Switch met her at the door and she's like, Hey buddy. Okay. You can jump in the car. I'm just going to go grab my, my bag to go home. And she went downstairs and saw that. And here's a dog who has never shredded or done anything. And for all that she knows is she, he, she, he was downstairs. She went, um, actually to say goodbye to her mom. And then 15 minutes later came back. This dog. Who's not had a history of ever doing this suddenly. And so. What happened? She doesn't know. Did my conversation with him. How does he know what I was saying? I wasn't being sad. I wasn't crying. I just said, I missed you. I'm glad you came to visit. It's been great. And I hope you have fun with your dad. Maybe you're, and maybe me saying your dad's coming back. I don't know. What does it matter? That the, why doesn't matter? All we can do is go, right. This is what happened. And the next time I leave this dog alone with a dog bed. I'm going to maybe check in on him a couple of times to see if something has changed. That maybe has him respond this way. So dogs aren't robots. It's about. To have the best life of the dog. You've got to look at what you've got, whether you're training with them or living with them, because some of you, let's face it. You, you've got dogs that are the way they, you want them to be that they fit well into your life right now. And you don't have any bigger expectations. But if they suddenly steal food from the counter, which they never had for like five years,

it's not, what did you do or what's gotten into your head or potentially something went on that made them decide they're going to start stealing food or not. All you got to, all I want you to realize is there's nothing you do about it now. Find the joy in their naughtiness and then come up with a training plan. If that's appropriate for you so that you help them understand, I don't want to I don't I don't actually like that kind of behavior. All right. So some great responses. I'm so impressed from you guys that you were able to, um, to pick up all of the things that I wanted you to pick up on the things that, how do our dogs tell us when, when they are happy or how can our dogs tell when, when we're happy, you've got to think of the reverse suit. They can tell when we're not happy. So I know if, you know, if you're, if you're even, it could be as little as, oh my gosh, what did you do? Or even less, you're training, you're training, you're, you're getting a little frustrated and you just go, dogs can pick that up. Right. And so you've got to look at that. Didn't work out the way I wanted. I'm going to break this off, create a moment of connection with my dog, put them up, go to my book and say, okay, how can this be better? What is the plan that takes me to a better place in my dog training? All right. So, because I think our, I know our dogs will be super happy with us if we're happy. And I know our happiness really just comes down to expectations that we've set these ambiguous expectations that we've set. Okay. Now I said, I was going to give away something today. Um, so every, Oh, I got to put that back up there. Here we go. Um, everybody who is on the list for our cyber event, and that's a URL. If you're not on the list, jump on the list now, because we are going to be doing a random draw of all the people on the list. Not sure what we're up to just yet, but I know my team will let me know I'm in contact with them. Uh, where's my little boom. There we go. Um, somebody will tell me how many people that we have. And if you're not on that list, get on the list. Also, please take the time to review the video that I have there for you about training two different types of dogs and how it's important that if you have a dog who really values something to borrow that value and place it in some, in a way that, that you want, I know that's very vague, but let me just say you have a border collie who loves to run or loves to swim or loves to go outside. Then you would like them to, to want to love to walk beside you at first. It might just be call them in to come beside

you for one second and tell them you can go run. You're out borrowing value from their running, putting it into walking with you and you grow those steps. All right. But you might have a dog, excuse me, like tater salad. He doesn't actually get really excited about much of anything, but he loves food and he loves to work. Now he didn't before. And so what we do with him was we just build more longer behavior chains. I explain all of that in this ebook that I have for you, if you go there, but also you get on the list for our cyber event and guess what? Boom, Chakalaka cyber event started today. All of our programs are open. You'll see them there. Um, excuse me, excuse me. You'll see them there. Every single one we've, we've added bonuses, created an amazing value for you. We want you to get to a place where you have that joy and happiness with your training every single day. And it's about creating clarity, right? Like I'm giving you guys a chance to get on the list. That's why I'm going to share one more thing with you. This is an example of how we train and it starts in the pink with just creating clarity for anything. And, and if you've been around our program, you know, the, one of the first things we do is the, it's your choice game. There was a puppy that I trained here last week. It was, um, eight and a half or nine week old, Australian shepherd puppy, super cute puppy. And that puppy. Um, I, I just, I had two little sessions, maybe five minutes each. And at the end we talked to the owners, there was three of them there and said, what did you think about watching Susan train? And the biggest takeaway was I can't, I couldn't believe what was achieved with that puppy. And going back to this picture, the layers, I just started at the bottom. I just did a bunch of pink stuff. And when I could do a bunch of pink stuff, I could, I actually went a little bit of higher and did something up there, but here's what happens. I'm going to give you an example of agility. I'm going to give you a true life example from our recallers class that recallers you're building those layers of trust and foundation and connection and clarity. And then this person decided, oh, I'm going to go to agility, trusting that the agility school she went to locally would have the same mentality of building layers into learning for dogs. And what they did was on the first day, they got them over going over equipment. Now, luckily with recallers, this dog, her Labrador had amazing trust in her and would do these things.

And so each week the instructor made it more and more difficulty, made it more and more difficult. Instead of saying, let's do some pink and now we're doing great pink. Let's do some orange. Her instructor went, okay, you're doing so good on pink. We're going to do some blue and some green. And what happened was the dog left. And why did the dog leave? I put up a very important thing. She was so overwhelmed. She forgot her number. She forgot where she was and she stopped to think of where she was. And then her dog left and said, Hey, my friends are over there. And then the instructor squirted her dog in the face with a water bottle. And this is an extreme example. And I hope none of you ever have to endure this, but what happens when people teaching other people don't understand the layers of learning and that you create clarity and allow the dog to show you the joy they have in their work. And when you see the joy and the confidence, then you add another layer. Some of you may have seen the video that I posted of tater salad doing agility. I'm just doing weepholes in a tunnel, but he loves it it. And he's happy and I'm happy. And that's what training is supposed to look like. And when you don't do strategic layering, you're training, there is confusion, which, you know, the dog's like, Oh, you're doing something. I'm going to go visit my pals. And so unfortunately what a lot of trainers do, then they say, you knocked a bar, you left the course, you get punished because our expectations are so high of these dogs, just because they show you some brilliant behavior down here. And that's how dogs end up not trusting their people and not trusting other people in the environment. And worst of all, they, they learn not to like who you become when you train them or who your friends around you become when you're training. And so we don't want that. So the I'm getting really long today, but my point is happiness should guide training your happiness. And if you're not happy, chances are it's your, your gut saying something's not right with what we're doing here. All right, let's give something away. All right. What's our, what's our number now, Lisa? I'm gave people a chance to, to, to, to, to, to sign up, get on our list and our number. We're going to go to our generator, our auto generator. Let me just make this extra big for you. Then I'm going to share my screen so you can see it for 4,021. That's what our number is. So I'm going to put in 4,021 into this little thing here generator to find out who is our lucky winner today. And then I'm going to tell you how

you can win a second prize today. Okay. So here's the generator and I'm going to put in 4,021 and we're going to hit generate. Here we go. And our winner is, Ooh, good number 3524. So what's going to happen is my team is now going to go down our list and see who the 3,524 person is who signed up to be part of our jumpstart cyber event. And we will contact you, but I'm going to give you your name shortly on, on here. Cause my team will let me know. So I'm going to contact you are actually I'll be truthful. It's my amazing team. That's going to be contacting you now. If what I'm talking about today, do you guys, do you guys understand how, what I just described the layers of learning and how that can lead to clarity and how clarity can lead to confidence and how that could create happiness in our dog training? Just give me, I got it, Susan. I live it. I'm trying to get there, Susan. So do you get that? And Sally, Sally McKenzie said she had a trainer who leaned in front of me and shouted at her dog. I think we've all, we've all been there. I remember my very first ever dog that I trained back in 1990, 1988, 19, 19, Swaggy. I think you know who it is. 1988. And I was told to, uh, and she loved me, you know, we used to go to the barn together all the time. Back then I was riding a lot and I would thank you. So I see some of you saying you live it. You're all in. I love it. So 12 week old dog. And they said, okay, um, let your puppy go visit the people kneeling down in front of the room. And that was the instructors and the instructors would give them a treat. And then they said, okay, come on back now, walk across the hall. And when they're visiting, call their name and give them a a check on their choke chain. Cause we had choked a choke chain on my little 12 week old puppy. And after two of these, she didn't want to visit people. So I'm teaching her not to be afraid of people. And I said, well, what do I do now? She doesn't want to visit the people. They said, well, correct her to the people. She should do what she said that didn't resonate with me. Speaker 2 We all have something. We all have a horror story. We all have something that we, we knew in our heart, it didn't feel right. Right. And yes, a trainer might say you're coddling whatever, but it's all part of our growth. If we look at what is unclear for my dog, how can I bring clarity? And trust me when I say I've been training dogs for 30 years. And yes, I started at a school that told me to put a choke chain on my dog's neck and correct them after I give them cookie,

cookie, cookie, then correction, correction. And for the last 25 years, there's been none of anything remotely looking like that in my life. And I pride myself on the fact that I think my dogs are brilliantly well behaved, not in every environment, because guess what? They're still going to get excited if they know we're going for a big walk, but they come and they're called. They could be chasing a squirrel. They're really good at dog agility, but most importantly, they're an, they're amazing family pets that we fit together in our life. And that's the most important thing. Nothing is worth giving that up. Okay. I see a lot of you saying you get that, right? A lot of you say you understand you get, and I guess that's probably why you're on this page and watching this. Okay. Here's what I'd like you to do now. Tomorrow I'm going to do another live. It's going to be right here. My goal is for it to be one o'clock, but I have a vet appointment I have to try and get back for. So my goal is for it to be one o'clock. I will notify you at one hour before and I will give, I will announce another person for winning. And here's all you have to do is share this live on your own social media and say, Susan's talking about happiness in dog training. And it isn't what you might think. You can say whatever you want. You could say whatever your big takeaway from this live today, share this to your page and say, this is what I figured out today. Or this is what I got confirmed today. Share this. So somebody else can come and listen to what I'm saying and be empowered by knowing they can expect something different with their dog. If they are in a situation where an instructor's doing something, they don't feel comfortable, which I hope that doesn't happen so much anymore. I I'd like to think most people understand the bigger picture about our life with our dogs. So share that and then come on back here, right on this post shared. And then what my team's going to do, they're going to put your name in a list and tomorrow we're going to let you know who won the share and guess what you're going to win. Hold on. A. Purpel. I don't know why I'm putting this in my ear. Cause you guys aren't talking to me. I feel like you should go. This is from my good friends at blue nine. And, um, if you don't have one of these and you win it tomorrow, you're going to love it. I love, love, love my propels. Um, probably it's definitely my number one favorite new fitness piece of fitness equipment in the last, I don't know,

10 years, but it's probably right up there with my, um, travel plank. Those are the two biggies that I use when I'm training. So share this. And then listen, if you're on like Twitter or Instagram, and you want to share this link over there, come on back and write. I shared it three places and we'll give you three chances at winning a propel for tomorrow. Yeah. I, I absolutely love it. Doesn't matter where you live in the world. The people at blue nine are amazing and they will ship it to you anywhere. Okay. So I, I love this talk. I love that we're doing, we're doing the 12 days of gifts and we are giving something away every day. Was that I said, we do it for 12 days. The truth is we're doing it for 15 because we already, we started earlier than we planned. And, um, every day I'm focusing on a, on a word that I believe is empowering us as dog owners to help our dogs live their best life, but in return, helping us to live our best life as well. Okay. So, uh, yes, please like this video, share it and come on back right in the comments. I shared it and you'll be in the draw. Boom. Chuck a locker. That's it. If you have any questions for me, I read every single comment on these lives. So if you want to leave a question for me, uh, something that I spoke about today that is a little bit confusing for you, um, then let me know. Oh, today's winner. Today's winners. Thank you. Thank you. Lisa from my teams, like Susan, don't forget to tell people who today's winner is. Uh, Alice, that's all we got. Just Alice. We're going to email you, Alice. We have your email address and we are not going to announce it here on the air, but if your name's Alice, then you won. And today, what you're winning is a bed from Zentech. Oh, you're going to love this. It's like the, the, the fabric was made for Nassau and you're going to love it. It's a, it's like a cooling fabric. If you have a nice thick bed, you can put it on the top of it. Love it. Okay. Tomorrow, giving away Propel new word of the, of the day and empowering word to help you and me. I just love talking about this stuff. So I'll see you guys next time. That will be tomorrow. Okay. That's Friday. See ya.
