뒷문, 앞문, 그리고 전화기 모두 똑같은 벨소리가 났습니다. 벨소리가 들릴 때마다 이 문 저 문으로 달려가야 했던 그 답답함을 상상해 보세요. 세상에, 세상에, 보상을 빨리 챙겨야 하는데 말이죠. 강아지들이 일반 마커를 들었을 때 느끼는 기분이 딱 그렇습니다. 강아지가 무엇을 받게 될지 알 때 우리가 제공하는 명확성에는 큰 차이가 생깁니다. 그리고 어디에서 보상을 받게 될지도 알게 되죠. 그것이 바로 스포트라이트(특정 보상 마커)가 강아지에게 주는 것입니다. 사실 혼란은 우리 모두의 학습 속도를 확실히 늦추기 때문입니다. 우리 강아지들을 포함해서 말이죠. 구체성은 학습을 가속화합니다. 제가 시간이 지나면서 깨닫게 된 비밀은 스포트라이트, 즉 위치 특화형 보상 마커는 마커인 동시에 행동을 유도하는 신호라는 점입니다. 일반 마커는 그렇지 않습니다.

That's kind of how your dog feels when they get a general marker. And the difference in the clarity we bring when the dog knows what they're going to get and where they're going to get it. And that's what a spotlight delivers to them. Because the truth is confusion absolutely slows the learning for all of us, including our dogs. Specificity accelerates that learning. And the secret is that I've come to learn over time is that spotlights or location-specific reinforcement markers are both markers and cues that prompt behavior. General markers are not.
