유튜브에서 책상 앞이 아니라 라이브로 진행하는 건 처음이네요. 인스타그램이나 페이스북에서는 해봤지만, 유튜브에서는 한 번도 안 해봤거든요. 그래서 전체적으로 파악하는 데 시간이 좀 걸렸어요. 우선 시작하기 전에, 이번 라이브를 하게 된 이유는, 유튜브 영상에 달린 댓글을 읽고 나서 갑자기 생각이 났기 때문이에요. 어떤 분이 제가 개들을 부르는 걸 통제된 환경인 건물 안에서만 봤지, 외부에서는 본 적이 없어서 저희 훈련 방식을 믿을 수 없다고 하더라고요. 그래서 마침 산책 나온 김에 라이브를 켜기로 했어요. 편집된 영상이 아니라, 저희 개들의 모습을 있는 그대로 실시간으로 보여드리고 싶었거든요. 아주 쉬운 것부터 시작해 볼게요. 카메라를 돌려보겠습니다. 지금 잔디를 먹고 있는 저 아이가 모멘텀이에요. 일단 모멘텀부터 불러볼게요. 모멘텀! 이리 와, 무! 보시다시피 한 마리만 불렀고요. 나머지 개들이 꼭 다 와야 하는 건 아니에요. 모멘텀은 제가 뭘 원하는지 지켜보고 있죠. 이제 그냥 가서 놀라고 할 거예요. 이제 개들이 다시 달려나가기 시작했네요, 스웨거만 빼고요. 스웨거는 여전히 잔디를 먹고 있네요. 혹시 질문 있으신가요? 댓글이 제대로 보이는지 확인해 봐야겠네요. 잘 모르겠어요. 다시 말씀드리지만, 이번이 처음이라서요. 댓글창에 '안녕 수잔' 하고 인사를 남겨주시거나, 어디서 보고 계신지 알려주시겠어요? 댓글을 제가 제대로 확인할 수 있는지 보려고요. 그리고 질문 있으시면 언제든 대답해 드릴게요. 혹시 가다가 토끼라도 마주칠지 모르겠네요. 하지만 여기 지형이 꽤 험해서 쉽지는 않겠지만요. 제 개들이 잘 따라와 주길 바랄 뿐입니다. 제 개들이 어디 있는지 보이지도 않네요. 음, 만약 녀석들이 토끼나 사슴을 몰아낸다 해도, 저는 녀석들이 무시할 거라는 걸 알아요. 그러니 녀석들이 사냥감을 쫓다가 부르는 대로 돌아오게 하는 모습을 보여드릴 수가 없네요. 녀석들은 사냥감이 중요하지 않다고 훈련받았기 때문이죠. 녀석들이 돌아와 저를 확인하는 것 보이시나요? 이제 모멘텀은 저를 확인하며 무슨 일인지, 어디로 가는지 기다리고 있어요. 어디로 가는 거지? 그게 바로 녀석들이 밖에서 자유롭게 뛰어놀 수 있는 특권을 얻은 이유예요. 음, 제가 '불러오기' 훈련을 단계별로 쌓아왔기 때문에, 무슨 일을 하든 제가 부르면 돌아오게 되어 있거든요. 자, 개들을 여기에 다 모아볼게요. 모두 저를 기다리고 있어요. 그중 한 마리를 불러볼게요. 얘들아, 이리 와. 이쪽으로 와. 그렇지, 한 마리 왔고. 이건 '이쪽으로 오라'는 뜻이었어요. 자, 앉자. 베티, 너도 이리 와. 그리고 나는, 야, 뒤로 와. 부딪히겠어. 모멘텀은 10살 된 무브예요. 지금 명령을 기다리고 있죠. 내가 돌아오라고 불렀던 것 같은데. 모멘텀, 앉아. 좋아요. 이제 모두 풀어주고 가장 어린 22개월 된 녀석을 불러볼게요. 좋아. 됐어. 하마터면 모멘텀이랑 부딪힐 뻔했네. 착하다. 보상은 간식을 줄 수도 있고, 어떤 행동을 하게 한 뒤 다시 가라고 할 수도 있어요. 좋아요.
on live, like away from the desk on YouTube. I've done it on Instagram, I've done it on Facebook, never on YouTube. So it took me a little bit to figure it all out. And I'm gonna start by, the reason for this live really was, it was prompted because I read a comment on one of our videos on YouTube. They didn't believe in the credibility of our training because they'd never seen me be able to recall my dogs, except like in a controlled environment, like the building. So I'm out walking and I thought I would live, not show you like video that I can edit. I'm just gonna show you live video of my dogs. I'm gonna start super easy. I'm gonna turn the camera around. You can see that's momentum eating grass. So I'll call her first. Man! Come here, Moo! So I call one dog. It doesn't mean that everybody needs to come in. And she'll wait until she sees what I want her to do. And I'll just tell her, go play. So now the dogs are off and running, except Swagger. He's still eating grass. So if you have any question, I'm assuming I'll be able to see your comments. I don't know. Again, first time. So put a, put a like, Hey Susan, or let me know where you're from in the comments. So I can see if I can even see the comments. And then if you have a question, I'd be happy to answer it. Maybe we'll happen upon a bunny or something. But the challenge is my dogs, it's very hilly. So my dogs are, I can't even see them. Um, and so if they flush out a rabbit or a deer, I know they're going to ignore them. So I can't show you me recalling them off of them because they've been trained that they're not important to them. So do you see how they come back and check for me? There's momentum now is checked for me waiting to say what's going on. Where are we going? That's why they earn the privilege of being out running loose. Um, because I build up layers of understanding that when I call you, no matter what you're doing, you're going to come when you're called. So let me get all the dogs lined up here. So they're all waiting for me. I will call one of them. Come here, you guys. Come on over this way. Right? There's one. This, that meant, come on over here. We're going to sit. Betty, you come over here. And I'm going to, man, get back here. You're going to get hit. So momentum is a 10 year old move. She's waiting to be released. I think I called you to come back here. Momentum and sit. Okay. So I'll release them all and I'll call the youngest who's 22 months old. Okay. That's it. Almost ran into momentum. Good boy. And his reward is going to be, I can give him a treat. I can give him, ask him to do a behavior and then I'll tell him to go again. Okay.

어디로 갔는지도 모르겠네요. 오, 저기 들판 멀리에 있는 게 보이네요. 이제 저 아이를 부를 거예요. 이거. 풀밭을 가로질러 오는 게 보이죠. 저기 오네요. 정말 착한 아이. 정말 착한 아이. 이제 가도 돼요. 좋아요, 갑시다. 할아버지 위로 뛰어다니지 말고. 잠시만 걸어봐요. 고마워요. 그래서 제가 같이 걷고 싶을 때는 '같이'라고 말하면 저와 함께 머물 거예요. 저는 또 다른 신호도 있어요. 팻팻, 너도 나랑 같이 와도 돼. 또한, 음, 앞서 나가도 된다는 신호도 있죠. 냄새 맡아. 냄새 맡아. 냄새 맡아. 그럼 아이들이 냄새를 맡으며 원하는 곳으로 갈 수 있어요. 냄새 맡아. 하지만 저 아이가 듣고 싶어 하는 '가서 놀아'라는 신호가 있는데, 이렇게 하죠. 가서 놀아. 그러면 마음껏 뛰어놀 수 있어요. 들판에서 저와 함께 걸을 때 사용하는 세 가지 다른 신호예요. 하지만 아이들은 계속 확인을 해야 해요. 둘 다 멈춰서 제가 어디 있는지 다시 확인하는 거 보이시죠? 보통 우리는 그렇게 걸어요. 아이들에게 요청할 수 있는데, 여기 세 마리가 있네요, 하나, 둘, 셋. 엎드려. 저기 있는 아이는 안 보이죠. 저기서 엿보고 있거든요. 거기. 모멘텀은 엎드리지 않았네요. 가끔은 앉으라고 시키기도 하죠. 가끔 급한 순간에는 하나와 다른 것을 착각하기도 해요. 특히 10살 반이 넘어서 어린 강아지들처럼 규칙적으로 훈련받지 않을 때는 더 그렇고요. 매트, 엎드려. 고마워요. 가서 놀아. 그리고 우리가 하는 일들의 일종의 징표 같은 거죠. 미스터는 14살 반이에요. 이제 청력이 예전만 못해요. 그리고 눈도 한쪽밖에 없고요. 그래서 엎드리라는 요구는 하지 않아요. 콜(이리오라는 명령)도 하지 않고요. 정말 불러야 할 상황이라면 호루라기를 불 거예요. 그건 들을 수 있거든요. 라이브 방송에서 그렇게 하지는 않을 거예요. 왜냐하면 분명히 여러분의 고막을 다 망쳐놓을 테니까요. 알겠어요. 댓글을 볼 수가 없네요. 어디 보자, 여기 버튼을 이것저것 눌러서 댓글을 볼 수 있는 방법이 있는지 확인해 볼게요. 도무지 어떻게 하는지 모르겠네요. 분명 방법이 있을 텐데 아직 알아내지 못했어요. 그러니 질문을 했는데 제가 못 보고 지나치더라도 사과드려요. 다시 말하지만 이게 처음이라서, 이런 거 처음 해보거든요. 오, 음, 화면을 작게 만들었어요. 아니요, 댓글이 없네요. 그래서 제 개들은. 말씀드렸다시피 프로핏은 22개월이 되었고, 들판에서 마음껏 뛰어놀 기회를 얻죠. 음, 제 말을 잘 듣고 반응하며 다시 저를 돌아볼 거라는 걸 증명했을 때, 방금 전처럼요. 그리고 제가 무작위로 '앉아'나 '엎드려' 같은 신호를 줬을 때 반응한다면 말이죠. 왜냐하면 두 번 말해야 한다면, 그건 그 신호가 생각만큼 잘 숙지되지 않았다는 뜻이니까요. 음, 사람들은 '여긴 당신의 들판이잖아요. 개들이 당신의 들판에 익숙해진 거죠'라고 말하겠지만, 글쎄요?
I don't even know where this went. So I can, oh, I see her way over there in the field. I'm going to call her. This. You can see her coming through the grass. There she comes. Super good girl. Super good girl. Right now she can go. All right, let's go. Don't run over the old guy. Just walk for a minute. Thank you. So if I want them walking with me, I just say with me and they'll stay with me. I also have a cue. Fat Fat, you can come with me as well. I also have a cue that it is, um, you can walk ahead of me. Sniffies. Thisy sniffies. This sniffies. That they can go where they want on sniffies. Sniffies. But I have a cue that she's hoping I'll say, which is you can run, which is like this. Go play. Then they can go off and rip. Three different cues while walking with me in the field. But they should be checking in. Do you see they've, they both have stopped and checked back in with where I am. And that's typically how we walk. I can ask the, there's the three, one, two, three. Lie down. So you can't see thisy up there. She's peeking over there. There. Momentum didn't lie down. Sometimes I asked them to sit. And sometimes in the heat of the moment, they mistake one for the other. Especially when you're 10 and a half and you don't get trained as regular as the youngsters. Matt, lie down. Thank you. Go play. And kind of sign of kind of the things we do. Mr. is 14 and a half. He doesn't really have great hearing anymore. And he's only got one eye. So I don't ask him to lie down. I don't ask him to recall. If I really needed him to recall, I would whistle because he can hear that. Not going to do that to you on a live stream because I will absolutely wreck your eardrums with my whistle, I'm sure. Okay. I cannot see comments. Let me, I'm going to just start pushing buttons here and to see if there's any way I can see your comments. And I just can't figure out how. I'm sure there's a way, but I haven't got it yet. So I apologize if you ask me something and I'm not seeing it because again, first time, first time doing this. Oh, um, I got the picture smaller. No, no comments. So my dogs. So as I said, profit is 22 months and they get the opportunity to run loose in the field. Um, when they prove to me, when they've shown that they will listen and be responsive and check back in as he just did. And if I give a random cue, whether it be a sit or down, but they will respond because if I have to say it twice, then I take note that cue isn't known as well as you thought it was known. Um, and people will say, well, this is, this is your field. They're used to your field, but guess what?

제 개들은 사슴을 보고 '아, 저거 쫓아가야지'라고 생각하지 않아요. 사슴들이 주로 잠을 자는 곳을 보여드릴게요. 바로 여기 움푹 들어간 곳이 사슴들이 자주 자는 곳이에요. 아, 가끔 여기서 움푹 들어간 자국들을 볼 수 있긴 한데, 음, 보통 사슴들이 나오는 곳은 거기가 맞아요. 물론 내 들판이긴 하지만, 그거 아세요? 우리 개들은 사슴을 보고 '오, 저건 프레드랑 랄피네'라고 생각하지 않아요. 우리는 우리 들판에 있는 거니까 괜찮다고요? 아니요, 개들은 야생 동물을 무시하고 쫓아가지 않도록 훈련받아야 해요. 지금 22개월 된 프로핏은 여전히 몰래 다가가기도 해서, 토끼나 다람쥐 같은 것을 보면 멈추게 해야 해요. 아니면 뭘 보든 간에요. 음, 하지만 쫓아가지는 않죠. 녀석은 몰래 다가가다가도 제가 '그만'이라고 하면 돌아와요. 다른 개들은 이제 아예 신경도 안 써요. 왜냐하면 저와 함께 무언가를 할 수 있다는 것이 훨씬 더 큰 보상이 되기 때문이죠. 여기서 리콜을 한번 더 해볼게요. 오, 다들 기다리고 있네요. 제가 알기로는 이게 그렇게 인상적이지 않을 수 있지만, 개들이 저를 쳐다보고 있는 게 바로 저희 개들이 하는 방식이에요. 왜냐하면 냄새를 맡고, 풀을 뜯어먹고, 즐겁게 놀다가, 다시 돌아와 확인하는 행동에 대해 엄청나게 보상을 받았기 때문이죠. 하지만 개들이 서로 뛰어다니며 쫓게 만들면, 그 상태에서 멈추게 하거나 다시 불러들이기는 더 어려워요. 움직이는 개들을 멈춰 세우는 건 힘든 일이죠. 그래서 누구였는지는 기억이 안 나서 죄송하지만, 오늘 달린 댓글에서 이렇게 말하더군요. '당신의 개들이 건물 밖에서 리드줄 없이, 전기 충격기를 사용하는 사람들이 하는 그런 행동을 하는 걸 본 적이 없다'고요. 저는 제가 안전하다고 느끼는 환경이라면 어떤 곳이라도 저희 개들을 데리고 나갈 수 있다고 자신합니다. 예를 들어, 어떤 사람들은 '왜 복잡한 거리에서 차들이 다니는데 리드줄 없이 산책하지 않느냐'고 묻더군요. 제가 왜 그래야 하죠? 영상에서 보여드린 것처럼 저희 개들이 제 옆에서 걸을 것이라는 걸 99.9% 확신합니다. 하지만 저는 개들을 너무 사랑해서, 단 0.01%의 위험 가능성에라도 녀석들을 노출하고 싶지 않아요. 단지 누군가 으스대고 싶어 한다는 이유만으로요. 그런 짓은 안 할 겁니다. 하지만 어떤 기술이든 저는 100% 확신해요. 녀석들이 알고 있어서 제가 보여줄 수 있거나, 그게 중요하다면 말이죠. 제 입장에서는 만약 누군가 '맞아요, 저한테 그 기술이 없는 것 같아요'라고 한다면, 저는 그 기술을 훈련할 거예요. 하지만 만약 그게 당신에게는 중요한 것이고, 그것이 훌륭한 반려견 훈련사의 척도라고 생각하더라도, 제 반려견이 가족으로서 누리는 전반적인 혜택에 도움이 되지 않거나, 제가 어질리티 경기에서 개들을 운영하는 능력에 도움이 되지 않는다면, 아마 굳이 신경 쓰지 않을 겁니다. 제 말은, 도그 스포츠 간에 서로 교차하는 기술들이 많다고 생각하지만, 저는
My dogs don't see the deer and go. Oh yeah, that's what I'm going to do. So I'm going to show you where the deer usually sleep actually. So right in here is the indentations. That's where the deer sleep often. Oh, they can sometimes you'll see indentations out here, but, um, but that's normally where I see the deer coming out. And sure. It's my field, but guess what? My dogs don't see the deer and go, Oh yeah, that's Fred and Ralphie. We there for our field. So it's okay. No, they have to be trained to ignore the wildlife, to not chase. Now profit 22 months, he will still stock and I'll have to call him off of the, the bunnies or the squirrels or whatever he sees. Um, but he won't chase. He'll stock and I'll say that's enough. And he'll come back. The others don't even bother anymore because it's such a reinforcing thing to be able to do the things with me. Let's do another recall here. Oh, they're all waiting. It's not as I know it's not as impressive when they're staring at me, but that's what my dogs do because they've been so reinforced, go out, sniff, eat grass, have fun, check back in though. But if I get them running and chasing each other, that's when it's harder to come off of, uh, like running off or calling off moving dogs. That's tough. So for whoever it was, and I apologize, I don't remember. I just read the comment today that said, we we've never seen your dogs out off leash outside your building doing things that people who use electric collars can do. And I'm pretty confident there isn't an environment that I would put my dogs in provided I feel it's safe. For example, people have said, why don't you walk your dogs off leash in a busy street with cars and traffic all over. Why would I do that? I'm 99.9% sure my dogs would walk by my side, just like I showed you on this video. But I love my dogs too much to put them in a, even a 0.01 percent chance they could be in danger just because someone wants to measure a pickle. Not going to do it. But if there's a skill, 100% confident. Either they know it and I can show it, or if it was important to me, if it was like, Hey, you're right. I don't think I've got that skill. I would train it. But if it was something that was important to you that you think is the measure of this is what a good dog trainer is, but I didn't feel it contributed to the overall benefits my dog enjoy by as a family pet or contribute to my ability to run my dogs in agility, probably not going to bother with it. I mean, there's a lot of skills that I think are that crossover between dog sports, but I'm not going

to get into somebody else's discussion or argument or I don't know what you call it when you're trying to one up everybody. If you want to know how I train something, I love sharing that stuff. But not going to get into it. Look, there's a car there. So there is a measure of danger. There's a road here. I train my dogs. They don't go on that road. So I would never have them off leash near that road. There's no fence. There's no electric collar. There could be wildlife running across that fence. Coyote is like crazy. You don't get that golf course. But I'm very confident in the layered approach to what we do. That is not just something that brings success to myself and my dogs, it brings success to, I mean, we've, I've been doing recallers online since 2009, I believe. And it's the tens of thousands of people that have had success with, and I would imagine it's exponentially more since we decided to put so much information for free in things like the season of nuance, which is our free series we have running this week. I believe it's available for maybe 10 more days, but don't, don't hold me to that because I'm out walking my dogs on a Saturday night and I don't have that information ahead of me.
