사람들은 강아지를 데려온 첫날에 너무 과하게 대합니다. 아시겠지만, 모든 이모, 삼촌, 할머니, 할아버지에게 전화할 필요는 없습니다. 첫날부터 온 가족이 강아지를 만나기 위해 대가족 모임을 열 필요는 전혀 없습니다. 저는 강아지들이 새로운 환경에서 자신감을 키울 수 있도록 3일 정도는 시간을 주는 편입니다. 그러니 누구든 방문하는 것은 정말 자제해 주세요. 강아지가 임계점을 넘거나, 집에 있는 모든 반려동물이 한꺼번에 강아지를 만나러 와서 압도당해 불안한 기색을 보일 수 있습니다. 갑자기 이구아나가 나타나는데 강아지는 이구아나를 한 번도 본 적이 없는 상황이 생길 수도 있죠. 게다가 사람들이랑 아이들이 다 몰려와서 '어머, 너무 귀엽다!'라고 하는 상황이 벌어지고요. 진정하세요.
People overwhelm the puppy on that first day. You know, you don't need to call all your aunts and uncles, your grandma and your grandpa. You do not need a big family reunion for everyone to meet the puppy on day one. I like to give my puppies three days to just grow their confidence in their new environment. So, really low key visits from anybody. A puppy going over threshold or showing signs of anxiety because they're overwhelmed by, you know, all the family pets came in to meet them all at once. All of a sudden, there's an iguana there and they've never met an iguana before. And, oh yeah, and there's all these people and these kids and going, oh, isn't he cute? Take it easy.
